Action continues to collaborate with CERN

Action S.A. wins one more contract with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) for the delivery of Actina server equipment.

As part of the implementation of the new contract, the Polish distributor has already delivered to CERN about 130 servers and about 180 disk shelves with a total capacity of almost 26 PB.

"Continuing cooperation with such a distinguished research center as CERN is a great honor for us, even more so that it concerns supplying equipment of our own brand," said Wojciech Mayer, Enterprise Solution Manager, ACTION S.A. “Once again we show that Polish server solutions can easily compete with the largest global manufacturers.

"Action has been a reliable supplier to CERN for more than eight years," says Eric Bonfillou, hardware engineer and technical responsible for procurements to CERN IT data centre, in the Computing Facilities group of the CERN IT department. "We have been fully satisfied with Action’s products and support throughout this period."

The new contract is a continuation of a business relationship which started at the end of 2009 through a tender won by Action. Over the past 7 years (2009-2016), the Polish distributor delivered to CERN exactly 4791 own branded servers with a total value of up to PLN 55 million. The total theoretical computing power of these machines was about 1 PFLOPS, which means that a supercomputer of such power would be able to carry out as many as 1 trillion floating-point operations per second. It is important to note that Actina’s servers have supported the work of the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest particle accelerator, and the most important tool for CERN researchers, whose aim is to obtain a better understanding of elemental particles. The Large Hadron Collider was the one that helped scientists in 2012 to confirm the existence of the Higgs boson, proving how particles gain mass.
